Drummer Venzella Joy Williams Inducted as Honorary Member of Sigma Gamma Rho

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. has inducted world-renowned drummer Venzella Joy Williams as an Honorary Member. The sorority announced the induction today, Friday, July 24, 2026, during its 61st Biennial Boule in Tampa, Florida.

Venzella Joy Williams is one of the most recognized drummers in popular music, best known as the drummer for Beyoncé’s all-female band. She has held down the beat on the Mrs. Carter Show World Tour and the On the Run Tour with Jay-Z, performed with Beyoncé at the Super Bowl 50 halftime show, and appeared in the Homecoming concert film.

A native of Lockport, New York, Venzella Joy began drumming at age 10, learning her craft in church before turning it into a career. She attended Canisius College in Buffalo, earning a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a minor in music, and has gone on to become an endorsed artist for major drum and cymbal brands.

Beyond the stage, Venzella Joy is an entrepreneur and mentor. She is the founder of Glamour, Glitz, and Drumsticks, a series of drum clinics designed to empower and train female musicians, passing her expertise on to the next generation of women behind the kit.

Williams was inducted as part of Sigma Gamma Rho’s Honorary Membership Class of 2026, a group of women recognized during the 2026 Boule Honorary Membership Ceremony for achievements spanning sports, entertainment, education, public service, advocacy, entrepreneurship, and global humanitarian work.

The ceremony took place as Sigma Gamma Rho gathered in Tampa, Florida, for its 61st Biennial Boule under International President Marica T. Harris. In announcing the class, Harris said the 2026 honorees “embody the spirit of service, the power of purpose,” carrying forward the sorority’s mission of Greater Service, Greater Progress.
