Disney Imagineer Charita Carter Inducted as Honorary Member of Sigma Gamma Rho

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. has inducted Walt Disney Imagineering executive Charita Carter, the first Black woman to serve as an Executive Creative Producer at the company, as an Honorary Member. The sorority announced the induction today, Friday, July 24, 2026, during its 61st Biennial Boule in Tampa, Florida.

Charita Carter has spent more than two decades at Walt Disney Imagineering, the arm of the company that designs and builds its theme park attractions. She is best known as the lead producer behind Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, the Princess and the Frog attraction that reimagined Splash Mountain at Magic Kingdom in Florida and Disneyland in California, a project she has described as “a love letter to New Orleans.”

Carter’s path to the role was an unusual one. She began her Disney career as an accountant in Imagineering’s finance division before moving into show production and creative development. Along the way she produced Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway and led the Scenic Illusion team, whose work was granted more than 20 patents for the Walt Disney Company. She holds a degree in accounting from California State University, Northridge.

Recognized for her creative leadership and her commitment to inclusive storytelling, Carter has become one of the most prominent Black voices shaping the experiences that millions of families encounter at Disney parks.

Carter was inducted as part of Sigma Gamma Rho’s Honorary Membership Class of 2026, a group of women recognized during the 2026 Boule Honorary Membership Ceremony for achievements spanning sports, entertainment, education, public service, advocacy, entrepreneurship, and global humanitarian work.

The ceremony took place as Sigma Gamma Rho gathered in Tampa, Florida, for its 61st Biennial Boule under International President Marica T. Harris. In announcing the class, Harris said the 2026 honorees “embody the spirit of service, the power of purpose,” carrying forward the sorority’s mission of Greater Service, Greater Progress.

We at Watch The Yard would like to congratulate Charita Carter on her induction as an Honorary Member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
