Omega Psi Phi’s Kier Gaines Is Now a New York Times Best-Selling Author

Licensed professional counselor Kier Gaines, a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., is now a New York Times best-selling author with his book It All Starts When You Do: How to Do the Real Work of Self-Healing.
Born and raised in the Southeast quadrant of Washington, DC, Gaines is a 2012 initiate of the Omicron Gamma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi at the University of the District of Columbia.
A husband, father, community leader and therapist, Gaines has used his platforms to push the importance of self-awareness, personal growth and mindfulness. His transparent approach to mental health has encouraged millions of people to take a more proactive role in their mental health and to rethink how they approach life, relationships and parenting.

That work has earned recognition from Oprah and Viola Davis, along with invitations to speak at the White House, NASA and Amazon Movie Studios. Gaines was also honored by Emmy Award-winning actor Sterling K. Brown and Oprah Winfrey on OWN’s special Honoring Our Kings: Celebrating Black Fatherhood.
In It All Starts When You Do, Gaines challenges the idea that mantras and toxic positivity can fix life’s problems. His argument is simple: people who want more out of life need to know themselves far better than they currently do. The book guides readers through the hard work of figuring out what feels off when the answer isn’t obvious, whether that means a career stuck in neutral, family tension or the struggle to find love. It is published by Hachette Book Group.
It All Starts When You Do is available wherever books are sold. Share this article with your network to congratulate Gaines on this milestone.
