Iota Phi Theta and Vote to Live Engage Howard University Students during CBC Week

During Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Week, the Brothers of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc., through the Alpha Tau Chapter at Howard University, partnered with Vote to Live to host an engaging panel discussion focused on the importance of voting, civic participation, voter education, and understanding the rights and responsibilities of eligible voters.

The discussion brought together more than 150 Howard University students and community members for an important conversation about the power of the ballot and the role that young adults can play in strengthening civic engagement within their communities.
The panel featured Five International Presidents, along with other international leaders representing organizations within the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), commonly known as the Divine Nine. The leaders discussed their organizations’ respective efforts to encourage voter registration, voter education, and participation not only among their members, but throughout the broader communities they serve.

The program also highlighted Iota Phi Theta’s ongoing “Be in the Count” initiative, which encourages chapters across the fraternity to actively engage their communities in the electoral process. As part of this effort, Iota Phi Theta is encouraging each chapter to help 63 people get to the polls this November, connecting the initiative to the fraternity’s 63rd Founders Day and its broader commitment to civic responsibility. Grand Polaris Grant hopes that this effort will increase voter turnout by 20,000 across the country.
The Howard University event represented another important step in Iota Phi Theta’s efforts to Change The Narrative around civic engagement and demonstrate the power of collective action. By bringing international fraternity leadership directly to college students, the program created an opportunity for young adults to learn how they can participate in the voting process and become more engaged citizens within their communities.

The partnership between Iota Phi Theta, its Alpha Tau Chapter at Howard University, and Vote to Live reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that young adults are informed, empowered, and prepared to exercise their civic rights.

“Our goal is not simply to encourage people to vote, but to help ensure that they understand the importance of their voice, their rights, and their ability to participate in the democratic process,” said Iota Phi Theta 24th International Grand Polaris Orlando Grant
The event is part of Iota Phi Theta’s broader national commitment to civic engagement, citizenship, and community empowerment as the fraternity continues its work across its chapters and communities throughout the country and internationally.
