From Living Single to God of War: Actor T.C. Carson Is a Member of Iota Phi Theta

Did you know that actor and singer T.C. Carson is a member of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc.? Beloved as the suave Kyle Barker on the hit 1990s sitcom Living Single and known to a new generation as the original voice of Kratos in the God of War video game series, Carson was initiated through the Alpha Lambda chapter in 1981 while attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Born and raised in Chicago, Terrence “T.C.” Carson grew up as an only child in the city’s LeClaire Courts housing projects, raised by his mother, who instilled in him a love of the arts. He went on to study architecture and design at the University of Illinois, but the stage soon called him, and he built his early career in productions like The Wiz, Dreamgirls, and Ain’t Misbehavin’. In 1988, his theater work earned him a Joseph Jefferson Award in Chicago.

Carson became a household name in 1993 as Kyle Barker, the sharp-dressed stockbroker on Living Single. His on-screen romance with Maxine Shaw and his velvety serenade of “My Funny Valentine” remain fan-favorite moments from the series, which ran through 1998.

Beyond the sitcom, Carson built one of the most recognizable voices in entertainment. He originated the voice of Kratos in the blockbuster God of War video game series, voicing the character from 2005 to 2013, and he voiced Mace Windu in the animated Star Wars: Clone Wars.

His on-camera credits include U-571, Final Destination 2, and the OWN drama Greenleaf, and in 2023 he earned an NAACP Image Award nomination for his role in the A Wesley Christmas film series. A gifted vocalist, he has also released jazz and funk recordings, including his 2002 album Truth.

More than four decades after he crossed, Carson remains a proud member of Iota Phi Theta, the youngest of the Divine Nine fraternities, founded at Morgan State University in 1963 on the aims of scholarship, leadership, citizenship, fidelity, and brotherhood.
