Delta Sigma Theta’s Alpha Lambda Chapter Celebrates 95 Years at North Carolina Central University

More than 300 sorors, family members, friends, and guests gathered on the campus of North Carolina Central University from May 29 through May 31, 2026, to celebrate 95 years of the Alpha Lambda Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Chartered on May 30, 1931, Alpha Lambda is one of the longtime pillars of Delta Sigma Theta’s presence in Durham, and its anniversary weekend was built around three ideas: reflection, reconnection, and rejoicing. Across three days, sorors who crossed decades apart came back to the same yard, sharing the kind of memories that only a chapter approaching a century of life can hold.

The gathering honored the women who chartered Alpha Lambda in 1931 and the generations who carried its work forward through the years that followed. That work has stretched across public service, academic excellence, leadership, and social action, the commitments that have anchored Delta Sigma Theta since its founding and that Alpha Lambda women have carried into their communities for 95 years.

For a chapter that has lived through nearly a century of change, the weekend was as much about the road ahead as the road behind. Sorors used the celebration to recommit to the communities Alpha Lambda serves and to the young people who will inherit its legacy, celebrating the sisterhood that continues to unite Alpha Lambda women across generations in purpose and service.

Central to that forward look is the chapter’s endowment scholarship fund at North Carolina Central University, a lasting investment in students at the institution Alpha Lambda has called home since 1931. The fund carries the chapter’s mission directly to the next generation of NCCU students, turning 95 years of sisterhood into opportunity for those who come next.

As the Alpha Lambda Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. closes out its 95th year, its sorors are already looking toward the century mark, carrying the vision of their founders and the promise of an even brighter future for the chapter and the students it serves.
