New York Opens a Fall 2026 SUNY Admissions Offer to Students Unenrolled from Howard University

For students who were unenrolled from Howard University this semester, New York State has announced a Fall 2026 admissions pathway, along with an $800 credit to offset non-refundable enrollment deposits, at participating SUNY campuses.

Governor Kathy Hochul just announced that she has directed the State University of New York (SUNY) to offer guaranteed admission to New York State students impacted by Howard University’s recent disenrollment decision. All students affected, regardless of residence, will receive expedited late admissions review.

The offer comes after Howard University moved to disenroll more than 500 admitted students ahead of the fall term. The Washington, D.C. HBCU has since re-enrolled more than 200 of those students, according to CNN.

Campuses will draw on existing space in their Fall 2026 entering classes, so the initiative will not reduce opportunities for other New York students seeking admission. Potential participating SUNY campuses include the University at Albany, Binghamton University, the University at Buffalo, Stony Brook University, Alfred State College, SUNY Brockport, SUNY Buffalo State University, SUNY Canton, Farmingdale State College, SUNY New Paltz, SUNY Old Westbury, SUNY Oneonta, and SUNY Purchase, with additional campuses reviewing capacity.
