Spelman College is one of the many HBCUs to take preventative measures to protect their students, staff and faculty from the spread of the coronavirus.
The college recently released a list of precautions that it is taking which includes extending spring break a week, moving to remote learning until the end of the semester and suspending a college sponsored travel.
Read the list of precautions they are taking below:
- Spelman College is extending Spring Break by one week through Sunday, March 22.
- Spelman will move to remote learning beginning Monday, March 23, enabling students to complete their academic program off-campus. Academic programs will be offered remotely until the end of the spring semester.
- Spelman is suspending ALL college-sponsored and college-related faculty, student and staff international travel until at least June 30, 2020.
- Spelman is continuing to monitor the fluid situation daily and is closely following recommendations of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Georgia Department of Public Health to stay prepared to do everything necessary to ensure the health and safety of our community.
Other HBCUs around the country are also taking similar measures to protect their students. Jackson State University and Lincoln University of Missouri have both extended their spring breaks and Lane College is one of the many HBCUs that is moving to remote classes due to the virus.
