Cheyney University, The Nation’s First HBCU, Turns 182 Years Old Today

Cheyney

The nation’s first HBCU, Cheyney University, celebrated its 182nd anniversary today.

The university, which is located in Pennsylvania,  was founded as the African Institute in February 25, 1837 and renamed the Institute of Colored Youth (ICY) in April 1837. It has a rich history and a long list of alumni who have made and impact on the world.

To celebrate we at Watch The Yard have made a list of notable alumni from the Cheyney.
