Have You Considered Joining the National Alliance of Black School Educators?

If you teach, or you run a school, or you want to, you should check out the National Alliance of Black School Educators.

Dr. Charles D. Moody Sr. called the first meeting after writing his dissertation on Black superintendents, and 15 of them came to the O’Hare Marriott in Chicago on November 20, 1970. He explained the impulse simply: “When one is in a struggle or battle, he looks around to see if he is alone.” They organized the following year as the National Alliance of Black School Superintendents, and by 1973 had opened the doors to teachers, principals and everyone else in the building.

That decision is what makes the organization useful now, because classroom teachers, principals, central office staff, superintendents and school board members all sit in the same affiliate chapters. For an educator who wants to move into administration, that is direct access to the people who make those hires and write the recommendations that decide them.

The programming is built for that climb. Pre-conference leadership institutes for aspiring administrators and superintendents run $225, with other pre-conference offerings at $150. The Black Women Superintendent Academy is a placement pipeline run with Howard University’s School of Education. The Dr. Charles Mitchell Jr. Leadership Scholarship awards $10,000 to a dues-paying member enrolled in or accepted into an advanced degree program in educational leadership.

The 54th Annual Conference runs December 2 through 6, 2026 in Orlando, and member registration is $650 early against $800 for everyone else, so joining pays for a good part of itself in one transaction. Membership also comes with a career center carrying job postings members see first.

Undergraduate student membership is $32 a year and individual membership is $156.
