Alpha Kappa Alpha Breaks a Guinness World Record at Its 72nd Boule with 2,282 Members Packing Hunger Relief Packages

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. turned its service mission into a world record in Las Vegas. On Sunday, July 19, more than 2,000 members gathered at the sorority’s 72nd International Boule to attempt a Guinness World Records title for Most People Assembling Hunger Relief Packages, and they delivered.
According to News3LV, 2,282 members took part in the record-setting effort, surpassing a previous mark that had stood since 1993. Working together, the sorors partnered with Three Square to pack 15,000 weekend meal bags for children facing food insecurity across Southern Nevada, and donated diapers to local families through Baby’s Bounty.

The record attempt was one of the signature moments of the 72nd Boule, Alpha Kappa Alpha’s international meeting, held July 18 through July 24 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Convention Center. More than 25,000 members traveled from around the world for the week, gathering under the theme “Soaring Together: Celebrating Our Impact on Service & Sisterhood” for business meetings, leadership sessions, celebrations, and community service.

The effort embodied the sorority’s founding mission of “service to all mankind,” a principle International President and CEO Danette Anthony Reed has carried throughout her tenure.
For an organization that has spent more than a century turning sisterhood into service, the record was never the point. Nourishing thousands of children was. The Guinness title simply made the scale of that work impossible to miss.
