AUC Students Hold Solidarity March for Nolan Wells

On October 1, students from across the Atlanta University Center held a solidarity march for Nolan Wells. They marched from the Robert W. Woodruff Library to the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel at Morehouse College.
The march brought together students from Spelman College, Morehouse College, Clark Atlanta University, and Morris Brown College. It was led by student organizations including Clark Atlanta University NAACP (@cau_naacp), Spelman College NAACP (@spelmannaacp), Young Democratic Socialists of America, AUC (@auc_ydsa), Black Youth Empowerment Network (@wearebyen), Open The Floodgates Initiative (@open.thefloodgates), and The Accountability Initiative (@taiclarkatl).

Wells, an 18-year-old from Ocean Springs, Mississippi, went missing on July 4 after attending an Independence Day gathering with friends on Horn Island, off the Mississippi Gulf Coast. A park ranger found his body on the island’s shoreline on July 6.
In September, a Mississippi grand jury declined to bring charges. The jury found that his death was consistent with drowning and that there was no evidence of criminal conduct. Wells’ family and supporters are still calling for answers. Family attorney Ben Crump said the decision was an attempt to close the case without getting to the truth.
The AUC students’ march adds their voices to the national calls for justice for Nolan Wells.
