Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. made the announcement Friday that they have inducted Lisa Price, the founder/CEO of Carol’s Daughter, Inc., as their newest member.

Price was inducted at the sorority’s Northeastern Regional Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina on April 22.

“We are elated to have Mrs. Price join our sisterhood. She is an amazing business woman who is committed to community service. Her story of success is inspirational,” Bonita M. Herring, the international president of Sigma Gamma Rho said in a press release issued by the sorority. “Mrs. Price’s leadership and determination make her an excellent role model. We are proud to welcome her into our sisterhood.”

“Price transformed her hobby of mixing fragrances and creams in her home into a beauty empire. She started a company with a hundred dollars, her kitchen and a notion that people should follow their heart,” the press release states. “The business grew from Price selling products at flea markets to setting up shop in her living room. She officially established Carol’s Daughter, named after her mother, in August 1994. Celebrities like Jada Pinkett-Smith, Erykah Badu and Halle Berry are some of Price’s loyal customers.”

In 2014 Price sold the company to L’Oréal. She is still dedicated to the Carol’s Daughter brand and continues to play an integral role in the product development process.

Price believes in family and giving back to the community. “I’m proud to be Carol’s daughter. I’m proud to be Gordon’s wife. I’m proud to be mother to Forest, Ennis and Becca. And I am proud to be your soror.”

This Is How Sigma Gamma Rho Is Working to Reduce Drowning Rates

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and USA Swimming sponsored the 2017 Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA) biennial World Junior Swimming Championships from August 23 – August 28, 2017 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The sorority was the presenting sponsor and did this as part of their mission to decrease drowning in the United States.

“This agreement expands the sorority’s five-year old partnership with USA Swimming and designates it as the only non-profit sorority involved in this world-class event. ‘It’s exciting to see the continued growth of our partnership with Sigma Gamma Rho as it elevates to the international stage with the sponsorship of the FINA World Junior Swimming Championships,” said Tim Hinchey, President & CEO of USA Swimming. “With the organization’s strong ties to Indianapolis, this event presents the perfect opportunity to showcase the unique relationship Sigma Gamma Rho has with USA Swimming.'” the sorority stated in a press release.

“The sponsorship between USA Swimming and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority will increase awareness about our “Swim 1922” partnership, named for the year our sorority was founded, aims to increase swim participation and decrease drowning rates in our communities,” stated Deborah Catchings-Smith, the International President of Sigma Gamma Rho.

Alon with their swim clinics, the sorority hosted a class on how to protect Black hair while swimming and learning to swim.

According to the press release, “A recent study by the USA Swimming Foundation revealed a 5-10 percent improvement amongst America’s youth in overall swimming ability from its previous findings in 2010. The study was conducted by the University of Memphis and University of Nevada-Las Vegas. USA Swimming attributes much of this decline to the sorority’s efforts.”
